Development and history

Armor Attack began as a 1981 Cinematronics vector arcade game designed by Tim Skelly. GCE brought it to Vectrex in 1982, and the Vectrex Game Database credits Duncan Muirhead with programming the console version.

The original arcade cabinet relied on a physical city overlay because the monochrome vector hardware drew the vehicles but not the buildings. That concept translated naturally to Vectrex, whose commercial games routinely shipped with translucent overlays that added color and visual context.

This page uses one stable canonical URL for the title and loads its embedded ROM directly into the emulator after the Vectrex BIOS is ready.

Gameplay and background

Control a jeep through city streets while fighting tanks and helicopters. The maze and enemy approach angles reward constant movement, rotation, and careful use of fire. Two-player support is alternating rather than simultaneous.

How to play in Vectrexia

  • Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
  • Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
  • Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.

Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
