Development and history
Spike Hoppin’ was released by John Dondzila in 1998 and brought the character from GCE’s original Spike into the modern homebrew era. VGDB and Packrat both list it among Classic Game Creations releases.
Using a recognizable first-party-era character helped connect new software with the Vectrex’s original identity. The game is one of several independent Spike projects that followed the 1983 cartridge.
This page uses one stable canonical URL for the title and loads its embedded ROM directly into the emulator after the Vectrex BIOS is ready.
Gameplay and background
Guide Spike through timing-based platform challenges using the joystick and action buttons. Success depends on reading vector-platform spacing and committing to jumps or hops at the right moment.
How to play in Vectrexia
- Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
- Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
- Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.
Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
