Development and history

Polar Rescue was designed and programmed by Mark Indictor, with developer recollections noting Jeff Corsiglia’s input during the production period. Released in 1983, it was one of the later and less widely distributed GCE titles.

The game stands out for combining first-person vector navigation, sonar-style situational awareness, combat, resource management, and a precise rescue docking sequence. Its limited availability helped make complete physical copies sought after by collectors.

This page groups 2 ROM editions under one stable URL instead of creating duplicate search pages for alternate dumps or revisions. The primary edition loads automatically; the other editions remain available in the in-app library.

Gameplay and background

Navigate hostile waters, avoid mines, ice, and whirlwinds, destroy enemy submarines and torpedoes, then locate and carefully dock with a survivor pod. Unused enemy torpedoes can be added to the player’s supply, rewarding efficient attacks.

How to play in Vectrexia

  • Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
  • Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
  • Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.

Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
