Development and history
Pole Position was a major Namco arcade racing game, and GCE licensed it for Vectrex during the original commercial period. The VGDB does not identify the programmer of the Vectrex conversion, so the console credit remains listed as unknown.
Translating the colorful raster arcade machine to monochrome vectors required a substantial visual reinterpretation. The Vectrex version retains the forward road, traffic, steering, acceleration, and race structure while relying on the overlay and line geometry for atmosphere.
This page groups 2 ROM editions under one stable URL instead of creating duplicate search pages for alternate dumps or revisions. The primary edition loads automatically; the other editions remain available in the in-app library.
Gameplay and background
Qualify by completing a lap within the time limit, then race through traffic while avoiding collisions and staying on course. Analog joystick movement works well for steering, while the buttons control acceleration and related race actions.
How to play in Vectrexia
- Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
- Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
- Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.
Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
