Development and history
Melody Master was released in 1983 as a light-pen music program. The Vectrex Game Database credits Ronald J. Logsdon. Along with the drawing and animation titles, it demonstrates GCE’s attempt to position the Vectrex as a small creative computer as well as an arcade console.
The cartridge uses on-screen notation and light-pen selection to let the user assemble melodies. Its historical interest comes from combining direct display input, vector graphics, and the AY-3-8912 sound hardware in a consumer product.
This page uses one stable canonical URL for the title and loads its embedded ROM directly into the emulator after the Vectrex BIOS is ready.
This title was designed around the original Vectrex light pen. Vectrexia currently emphasizes keyboard and gamepad input, so light-pen-specific interaction may not be fully represented.
Gameplay and background
The intended interface uses the light pen to select and place musical elements. Vectrexia can run the cartridge and reproduce its sound generation, but the physical pen’s CRT timing and pointing behavior are not fully mapped to ordinary browser input.
How to play in Vectrexia
- Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
- Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
- Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.
Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
