Development and history

Fortress of Narzod was designed by Jeff Corsiglia and coded by John Hall, according to Vectrex developer recollections and the VGDB. It appeared late in the commercial Vectrex period and was built around the machine’s ability to draw clean, angled corridors.

The game’s defining idea is that the player’s projectiles bounce off the road walls. That gives the shooter a tactical geometry uncommon in fixed-screen games: indirect shots can reach guarded enemies, but a bad angle can send a projectile back toward the player.

This page uses one stable canonical URL for the title and loads its embedded ROM directly into the emulator after the Vectrex BIOS is ready.

Gameplay and background

Clear three waves of defenders on each road segment, then advance toward the fortress. Learn how shots ricochet from the walls, account for incoming Doomgrabbers, Tarantulas, Ghouls, and later threats, and avoid being struck by your own returning fire.

How to play in Vectrexia

  • Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
  • Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
  • Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.

Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
