Development and history

Repulse was created by John Dondzila and included in the 1999 Vecmania compilation. It is described in Vecmania histories as a clone or reinterpretation of the vector arcade game Eliminator.

The title reflects Dondzila’s interest in bringing underrepresented vector-arcade designs to home hardware. Its inclusion in a large compilation also helped Vecmania function as a survey of both famous and obscure arcade ideas.

This page uses one stable canonical URL for the title and loads its embedded ROM directly into the emulator after the Vectrex BIOS is ready.

Gameplay and background

Pilot in a confined vector arena, fire on opponents and hazards, and use the arena geometry to survive. The title is best approached as a fast arcade duel rather than a scrolling campaign.

How to play in Vectrexia

  • Move with the Arrow keys or WASD. Compatible controllers can use the left analog stick or D-pad.
  • Vectrex buttons 1–4 map to Z, X, C, and V, and to the standard face buttons on most gamepads.
  • Press a controller button after connecting it so the browser can expose the gamepad to the page.

Audio may begin after the first click, key press, or controller input because browsers can restrict autoplay.
